Curtis Hertel, Jr. is a member of one of the most powerful political families in Michigan history. His father was Speaker of the House, his uncle a congressman, and his brother is a state senator.
After serving 22-years in elected office, he became Gretchen Whitmer’s top lobbyist and the architect of the largest budget in Michigan history.
Immediately after resigning as Whitmer’s lobbyist, he took a $108,000 payoff from a special interest group in exchange for a $1.5 million earmark Hertel secured from his wife’s department in the Whitmer Administration.
