Hertel Supports 45¢ Per Gallon Gas Tax Increase
When Gretchen Whitmer ran for Governor in 2018, she denied accusations that she wanted to raise the state gas tax by 20¢ per gallon in a candidate debate, calling it “ridiculous.”
Five months later, in her very first budget as Governor, Whitmer proposed a 45¢ per gallon increase, which would make Michigan’s gas tax the highest in the nation.
Senator Curtis Hertel immediately endorsed the plan, saying “I’m glad the governor put a real plan on the table…I’m proud to support that plan…”
