Hertel Signed NDA to Negotiate $175 million for chinese Company
While serving as a State Senator, Hertel signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement in order to negotiate $175 million in taxpayer-funding to Chinese electric vehicle battery maker Gotion.
Gotion is funded by the Chinese government and the proposed location is near Camp Grayling, a critical military training facility.
Only the legislators who signed the NDAs knew who was getting the money, leaving the majority of legislators in the dark about what they were voting on.
Leon Panetta, former Director of the CIA under President Barack Obama, warned that the Michigan Gotion plant could be used for Chinese espionage.
To further hide their negotiations with Gotion, Hertel and other politicians used codewords in their electronic correspondence, revealed in a story by The Detroit News.
Five Green Township trustees were recalled over their vote to approve the Gotion EV factory.
